In order to keep history alive, ‘stampertje’ was designed. Every year, on
October the 3rd, people in Leiden (a town in the west of the Netherlands)
celebrate ‘Leids Ontzet’. They celebrate the liber ation of Leiden from the
Spanish oppression in 1574. They do this by eating a traditional stew,
called ‘hutspot’. Hutspot consists of mashed po tatoes, onions, carr ots and
stew meat.
